Finding Your Way
Online Companion
An interactive workshop about navigation through the sea of new technologies, the new skills demanded by employers, the media cultures of our students, and the professional development of our teachers. Along the way, we'll reflect on some of these questions:
- How digital are you?
- How are the new information and communication technologies shaping the world today?
- What skills will people need to survive and thrive in this newly-shaped world?
- How does the nature of today's students relate to those technologies and those skills?
- What do our teachers need as they face those students who need to develop those skills with those technologies?
This material was developed by Jim Lengel, author of Integrating Technology: A Practical Guide, published by Allyn & Bacon in 2006. Jim began his teaching career 37 years ago in K-12 classrooms, and now serves on the faculties of Boston University and Hunter College. He also consults with a variety of organizations on the application of technology to learning, including Apple Computer, Cisco Systems, IBM, and schools and colleges in the U.S and abroad.
